Before we get into the Regression and Therapy part, let’s first try to understand the concept of past lives. India, the global spiritual hub, is the birthplace of three religions or religious doctrines – Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. The one commonality amongst them being, the belief and acceptance of reincarnation.
The Religious Facets of Past Life Regression Therapy (PLRT)
The spiritual head of Buddhism, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, is believed to be the reincarnation of his predecessor, as was the Dalai Lama before him. The Bhagwad Gita, the holy book of the Hindus, is based on the theory of Karma – what you sow in this life, so shall you reap in the next. This points to a well-accepted belief of reincarnation and the notion of multiple lifetimes. The Karmic cycle is at the foundation of Hinduism, which itself is a philosophy of life.
Access to your past life via Hypnosis
Acknowledging the phenomena of reincarnation let’s then move on to past life regression. But the big question is – can you actually go back to a past life and live it again? The answer to that is a resounding ‘No!’ What’s done is done and cannot be undone. However, you can get a glimpse into it, through the process of hypnosis.
Your mind, the best data storage centre… ever!
A hypnotic trance, as induced by a trained therapist, is a relaxation that gently transports you to an alternative state. This hypnotic trance is unlike hypnotism, as we know it – where a hypnotist can control your mind. The clinical hypnotherapist cannot control your mind and is only a facilitator for you to peek into your subconscious mind. Think of your subconscious as a data-storage canter, storing cellular memories of all lifetimes, past and present.
Past Life impressions or memories are stored like ‘read only’ files, in the vast database of your mind and can be accessed through this hypnotic trance. When your memory is regressed by a therapist, by giving certain suggestions, the file of a past life, pertaining and relevant to a certain issue in your current life, is accessed by your subconscious mind. This is the regression part.
But how does PLRT help?
Here’s how, it’s time now for the therapy – first of all, it brings about a natural understanding of why certain disturbing patterns are subconsciously repeated in your life. This thereby, brings about a 50 per cent chance of healing, as in, at least you’ll potentially know why something is happening.
Secondly, even though a therapist cannot help you change what happened in a previous life, they can assist you to therapeutically make sure that a particular file no longer pops up. This is done by making sure that that cellular memory does not interfere with your present; the distress you previously felt before the therapy, is healed.
However, PLRT may be resorted to only for certain kinds of problems; the first line of treatment preferably being psychotherapy. And, of course, believing in reincarnation is a personal choice, to begin with!
